The Carolina Law Group has four offices in South Carolina for your convenience including: Greenville, Greer, Spartanburg & West Columbia. Our law firm represents people in a variety of serious and time-sensitive matters, including personal injury, workers’ compensation, criminal defense, and immigration cases. The firm features a diverse staff, many bilingual in English and Spanish.

Partners Monty D. Desai and Nihar M. Patel founded The Carolina Law Group in Greenville, SC in 2011. Their vision was to create a law firm centered around the needs of the client rather than the needs of the firm, and to build a team who would represent those in most need of a voice. Shortly after forming the firm, Matt Whitehead and Mitchell Byrd, Jr. joined Monty and Nihar, and the support staff grew to include paralegals, legal assistants, legal investigators, and licensed adjusters – each dedicated to client satisfaction, customer service, and building an unimpeachable reputation in the community at large.

The outstanding achievements of the attorneys at The Carolina Law Group have been recognized with a number of prestigious honors over the years. Among some of those accolades, Monty Desai was ranked in the Top 10 under 40 by the National Academy of Personal Injury Attorneys. He and Nihar were named National Trial Lawyers Top 40 Under 40 for South Carolina in recognition of their notable skills as trial lawyers. Monty, Nihar, and Matt are lifetime members of the Million Dollar Advocates Forum, which recognizes a select group of attorneys who have successfully achieved a verdict or settlement in the amount of $1 million or more for a client. These three were also named as Super Lawyers Rising Stars, and each attorney at The Carolina Law Group has been recognized by their peers being voted amongst the Greenville Business Magazine’s Legal Elite of the Upstate.

Monty is a Spartanburg native. Prior to law school, Monty served his country as a Navy Corpsman for the Marine Corps. He is a member of the South Carolina Bar, Greenville County Bar, National Associate of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the National Association of Distinguished Counsel, the American Association for Justice, South Carolina Association for Justice. In 2015, Monty was recognized by the National Academy of Personal Injury Attorneys as ranked among the Top 10 Under 40 for excellence in the field of personal injury and Legal Elite of the Upstate in the field of Workers’ Compensation.

Nihar represents The Carolina Law Group as a Board member with the South Carolina Association for Justice and as a Minority Delegate for the State of South Carolina with the American Association for Justice. In addition to his other numerous accolades, he has been selected as a Super Lawyers Rising Star, National Trial Lawyers Top 40 Under 40 in South Carolina and Legal Elite of the Upstate.

Matt attended the University of South Carolina School of Law where he served on the Law Review. He moved to Greenville after graduating where he lives with his wife and three children. He is a graduate of the South Carolina Trial Academy, Opportunity Greenville and is a member of the American Association for Justice, South Carolina Association for Justice and National Academy of Personal Injury Attorneys. He is also a member of the South Carolina Bar, Greenville County Bar and Spartanburg County Bar. In 2017, Matt was the top vote getter for Greenville Magazine’s Legal Elite of the Upstate in the area of Personal Injury. His focus is nearly 100% on personal injury and litigation.

Mitchell, an upstate native, is a graduate of Wofford College and the USC School of Law where he served on a journal and the Moot Court Bar. Since joining The Carolina Law Group, Mitchell has represented clients in Workers’ Compensation, Personal Injury and Criminal Defense. He is a member of the South Carolina Bar, Greenville County Bar, Greater Greer Chamber of Commerce and the South Carolina Association for Justice. He has served as a member of the South Carolina Bar Young Lawyers Leadership Academy and on the South Carolina Bar Association Judicial Qualifications Committee.
